In the beginning there was #GLTU – Drum and Monkey, January 2012

25 Mar

The first Glasgow Library Tweetup was on a cold, January night in the Drum and Monkey. When I first suggested the idea on Twitter, using the hashtag #GLTU, I thought we might get about half a dozen people but there were over 30 enquiries and about 20 turned up. I chose the venue because we could get space set aside for us and it didn’t have live music on a Friday night, which would not have been conducive to chatting to new people! The room wasn’t ideal for circulating, and it turns out Twitter, despite being our raison d’être, is not the best means of making sure everyone gets specific communications (not everyone reads their DMs or @messages!) Still, a good time was had by all, we discussed ideas for National Libraries Day, one of which came to fruition, and everyone agreed we should do it again.

I was too busy on the night to tweet or take pictures, but several other people documented the evening. Cathy (@cathysliccilips) wrote it up for Slainte, Joanna (@chibbie) did an article for Information Today Europe and Lynn (@lynncorrigan) posted her photos on Posterous.

If you know of any other write-ups of the event, please add them to the comments.
